Tips for Sellers for a Great Showing
Whether you are a FSBO or have an agent there are a few things you can do before a showing to make you house more appealing.
Probably the most basic is open the windows. Natural light is so much better on the eyes.
Get rid of the clutter. Throw dirty laundry in the washer (not to wash but to hide, you can sort and treat later but hide it now), throw clean unfolded laundry in the dryer.
Everyone know the old trick of backing cookies to make you house smell good. But if you are like me and cant make kool aid let alone cookies, or you dont want to make you house unnessasarily warm, you can put a drop or two of vanilla extract on a light bulb. It has the same effect, but you don't get to lick the bowl.
Is you basement dingy? cut a onion in half and place in on a plate in the basement a 1 - 2 days before the showing (if you have that much time). The onion smell with go away as well as the dinginess.
Sprinkle some baby powder on the squeaky wood floor and sweep up. It will get in the cracks and minimise if not get rid of the squeaking.
Grind up an orange peal in the garbage disposal to get rid of the rotten tomato (or other food) smell.
Unless you are a FSBO and don't have an agent you should LEAVE. Let you agent show your house. After all aren't you paying them? Let him or her earn it. And take you pet with you if at all possible.
Let me know if you have any other useful tips for a great showing or just an everyday 'keep my home nice' thing to do.
Happy Showing
